What is happening in Yemen?

Yemen is entering an increasingly dangerous period. On 13 August 2026, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen warned that the country faces its most serious risk of returning to large-scale conflict since the UN-mediated truce of 2022. Military activity has intensified along several frontlines, with recent attacks reported in Ma’rib, Hadramawt, Mokha and other areas, resulting in military and civilian casualties.

In September 2026, thousands of families fled a new military escalation. Islamic Relief aid workers in Taiz, Lahj and Aden Governorates say thousands more families are being displaced every day as airstrikes, shelling and armed clashes intensify, and many of them are fleeing without shelter, food, water, clothes or access to medical care.

Over 22.3 million people in Yemen are in desperate need of help, and almost half of them are children. They do not have enough food and lack access to clean water and good healthcare.

About 18.3 million people in Yemen do not know where their next meal will come from, with over half of all children suffering from chronic malnutrition.

The crisis extends beyond just food and malnutrition. Almost half of the country’s health facilities are not working, and many are without the equipment they need. The country’s water infrastructure is also in bad shape, making it hard for people to stay healthy and clean. In these dire conditions, one child dies every 10 minutes from preventable diseases.

Please support our work and donate today, so we can continue to save lives in Yemen.

We need your help to:
  • Support frontline workers: Provide essential medical and aid supplies to care for the sick
  • Fight malnutrition: Ensure families have access to enough food to prevent malnutrition
  • Promote hygiene and disease prevention: Provide clean water, soap and hygiene education to prevent illnesses
  • Create sustainable solutions: Empower communities with livelihood opportunities and projects focused on agriculture, water and renewable energy
  • Improve water, sanitation and hygiene services: Address the urgent need for clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene education

What is Islamic Relief doing to help people in Yemen?

Islamic Relief is delivering aid to displaced families in need across Yemen.

In 2025, Islamic Relief supported vulnerable families through Ramadan food assistance, zakat support, Eid clothing and qurbani meat. Priority was given to families, people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, and those who are internally displaced.

We worked with 4 district hospitals and 22 health facilities in Taiz, Al Hodeida, Raymah and Sa’ada, providing primary and secondary healthcare, maternal and child health services, medicines, equipment, operational support and outreach services. We rehabilitated 2 health facilities and supported 300 midwifery students to complete a 3-year education programme.

We also sponsored 7,973 orphans in Yemen, providing them with food, and medical and educational assistance.

Islamic Relief has been supporting vulnerable people in Yemen since 1998. With the support of our incredible donors, Islamic Relief will continue to be a lifeline for people in desperate need in Yemen.

Due to ongoing conflict, blockades, and delays in food imports, food prices in Yemen constantly fluctuate. At times, food prices have more than doubled during the conflict that started in March 2015. Islamic Relief Yemen continues to provide life-saving aid to those most in need through its partnership with international organizations such as the World Food Programme and the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF). We will regularly update price handles to reflect the current situation on the ground.
