785 million people across the globe do not have access to safe and clean water and are at risk of dehydration, disease and even death. Islamic Relief work with vulnerable communities to help create safe and reliable water sources.

Our focus is on creating sustainable water sources. Our lifesaving interventions include installing irrigation systems, building water tanks, training communities, distributing hygiene kits and repairing viable water systems.

Salma’s story

“When there is no rain, there is nothing to harvest or eat. Our existing waterholes spread diseases. We try to filter the water by tipping it from one bucket into another through a rag, but that only does so much and it doesn’t filter out the toxins”, says Salma from Niger.

“Beyond food, drink and washing, we use water to mould sand into bricks which become homes, schools, mosques, health centres and other buildings.

“Islamic Relief built a solar-powered borehole. Clean water is such a blessing, and I thank you for helping us access it”, says Salma.

This Ramadan you can help us reach even more vulnerable people. Use the power that Allah has given you to save lives and lift people out of poverty. Donate to our water appeal and help save lives.
